Welcome to the USMLE Tutorial

This Tutorial illustrates the USMLE examination interface and provides the opportunity to practice before taking the test. The sample items included as part of the Tutorial will NOT be scored; do not worry about whether you answer the items correctly. Concentrate instead on learning how to answer them and use all of the features of the computerized test.

On the day of the examination, you will have a set amount of time to complete the tutorial. The tutorial is optional, and not all of the features of the test delivery software will be described in detail. However, you are STRONGLY encouraged to perform the audio calibration before proceeding to your examination, in order to check audio headphones and sound levels. You should report any problems to the proctor at that time, BEFORE STARTING YOUR EXAMINATION. Checking audio headphones and sound levels before starting your examination will help prevent interruption during the exam.
You may use either the keyboard or the mouse to answer items, move between items, and select actions from the toolbars at the top and bottom of the screen. To use the keyboard, press the Tab key repeatedly to navigate to the desired item, answer, button, or panel on the toolbar. To select, press the Enter key. The Page Up and Page Down keys can be used to scroll to a section of the screen if more information is available than currently displayed.
