Mouse Functions

The mouse is used to answer items, move between items, and select actions from the toolbars at the top and bottom of the screen. Using a mouse involves a “point and click” operation.

Point:Rest your palm on the mouse with your index finger positioned on the LEFT button of the mouse. Use your hand to move the mouse. As you move the mouse, an arrow-shaped pointer (ie, cursor) will move on the screen. Use your mouse to “point” to objects on the screen, such as the answer that you wish to select.

Click:After pointing to a particular item on the screen, press the left mouse button once. This is called “clicking” and activates the object to which you “pointed.”

Two other common mouse terms are explained below.

Double click:Click the mouse button twice in rapid succession.

Drag:Dragging is used to move objects on the screen. To do so, point to the desired object, and press down on the left mouse button while moving (dragging) the mouse to the desired location. When you release the mouse button, the object will be dropped in that location.
You may use either the keyboard or the mouse to answer items, move between items, and select actions from the toolbars at the top and bottom of the screen. To use the keyboard, press the Tab key repeatedly to navigate to the desired item, answer, button, or panel on the toolbar. To select, press the Enter key. The Page Up and Page Down keys can also be used to scroll to a section of the screen if more information is available than what is currently displayed.
